In this May 2021 during the Local Immigration Partnership - Lanark & Renfrew Speaker Series event, former Ontario Attorney General and leader at Institute for Canadian Citizenship, Yasir Naqvi spoke on how rural communities can address systemic/historical racism to create more welcoming spaces for newcomers.
Being a welcoming community means focusing on creating connections between newcomers and established community members. This can help in eliminating barriers to social and economic integration and addressing racism and discrimination.
