AI is not just transforming university classrooms. It is significantly impacting academic research. This October 2025 panel focused on impacts of AI and false responders on online data collection. Learn how researchers are navigating false responders and bots as hostilities rise against 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Hear from experts on how AI tools and fake participants are changing the way data is collected, analyzed, and trusted, and what this means for community-based research and organizations serving 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

The session is inspired by this article: AI can affect anonymous surveys. Here are some ways for researchers to mitigate its impact: "Anonymous surveys protect participants from becoming targets of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate. However, researchers need to be careful about the potential for bad actors to spoil survey data."

Panelists:

  • Christopher Dietzel (Concordia University)
  • Evan Vipond (Open Digital Literacy and Access Network)
  • Ben Klassen and Ren Lo (Community Based Research Centre)
