This is a recording of an in person session that I did recently at the Access Alliance Multicultural Community Health Centre's Immigrant Researchers Support Network event. I focus on Knowledge Mobilization and Community Based Research, providing my take on how important Knowledge Mobilization is in Community Based Research and how newcomer or refugee researchers which what this network is made up of, could contribute to this mission.

This November 2023 Wellesley Institute webinar presents findings from the report Reimagining Funding and Service Delivery for Newcomers: Lessons from the Literature and Stakeholders. This project explored how newcomer settlement and integration outcomes are impacted by the current model of funding and service delivery.

This April 2022 panel builds on UN Special Rapporteur on Racism E. Tendayi's Achiume report Racial discrimination and emerging digital technologies: a human rights analysis. Presenters assessed the racially discriminatory use of digital technologies in border and immigration enforcement, including at the U.S./Mexico border and in Europe.

This May 2023 CERC in Migration and Integration workshop brought together scholars from different disciplines to introduce their research on digital technologies and datafication in migration and to discuss its ambivalent and contradictory role for migrants compared to refugees, as well as the unsettling consequences of the use of datafication in bordering and policymaking.

In recent years there has been significant discussion of the “migration infrastructure”, notably the networks, institutions and organizations that mediate migration trajectories. This April 2024 CERC in Migration and Immigration workshop takes a radical critical approach on to examining these concerns, looking at how provision of local migrant services, whether in border areas, or locations of settlement, give rise to a migrant “integration business”. 

It's not often (although it seems to be increasing) to get a glimpse into the inner workings and direction of federal government departments. IRCC is one of the least transparent. So it's delightful when we get a sense of their plans, especially in terms of how they might impact the work of our sector.

This presentation was part of the Pathways to Prosperity Preconference at International Metropolis in 2019. The presentation highlighted existing data sources for measuring integration outcomes at IRCC, as well as selected highlights of economic, social and health outcomes of immigrants, refugees and children of immigrants.

This 2023 Peel Newcomer Strategy session outlines and provides suggestions on how settlement sector can better promote their services to newcomers arriving in their community.

Information about life in Canada is plentiful, but finding the right information to help newcomers choose where to live, and informing them about the different opportunities, realities, and services outside of Canada’s most well-known destinations, can be a challenge. This workshop presents recent research aimed at informing migration communication activities in these areas.
