When we’re looking at future proofing settlement work, I like to think about it as a bit of an iceberg. There is a great deal below the surface that has to be in place before what we see above the surface is effective. The future of settlement work is about much more than technology but I want to focus this iceberg conversation on technology since that’s what we’re focused on here. 

This December 2021 Code for Canada workshop shared their new Digital Capacity Assessment tool for government teams. Building on the work of Public Digital and the Harvard Kennedy School, the tool helps public servants identify the digital competencies that are most important in their unique contexts.

I wrote this article in 2020 elsewhere when we were all trying to figure out this online facilitation/engagement thing. It's still a pain point/struggle, so I thought I'd bring it back into circulation.

On November 30, 2021, Simon Kemp celebrated a decade of the Global Digital Reports series with a lighthearted #NerdStream. He shared some of the stats and trends that have stood out for him over the past 10 years, and answered questions about the numbers, as well as how they produce the reports.

Presented at the P2P 2021 Workshop Series, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Settlement & Family division staff share observations made during the pandemic as they have continued to serve BC newcomers in the Greater Vancouver area and Fort St. John during the pandemic.

At the recent P2P 2021 Conference, I was part of the panel "The COVID Cohort of Immigrants: Tackling Settlement and Employment Challenges." My focus was on discussing the impact of technology on both clients and service providers in the pandemic context.

This 2020 eSkills.ca interactive webinar series provided background information on the creation of learning modules focused on building English-language learners’ digital literacy. The eSkills team provided an overview of the process of planning, designing, and developing engaging online learning, outlining their digital literacy training project and resources.
