This Digital Navigator Program Toolkit provides guidance for setting up and managing successful digital navigator programs. The toolkit was created by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) who have experience training, supporting, and learning from hundreds of digital navigators and programs providing digital navigator services across the country.

Are our technology practices helping or harming the communities we serve? As digital tools become more deeply woven into every part of nonprofit work, from client services and communications to data collection and decision-making, it essential that we pause and ask this question. At the March 2025 Metropolis Conference I participated with Peel Newcomer Strategy Group (PNSG) on a panel presentation. If you weren't in the room, you may think you missed it. But, thankfully recently ran a similar panel and the 2024 P2P conference, virtually, so there is a recording. I didn't participate then, but I also have a recording of a very similar presentation I did on the topic of digital inclusion/equity and digital transformation in the sector.

Switchboard, a one-stop resource hub for refugee service providers in the United States, and the University of Utah recently ran Confluence, a conference to provide participants with valuable insights into co-creation design methodology, innovative approaches to virtual case management using Artificial Intelligence, and ideas for developing cross-industry partnerships to create sustainable, innovative solutions that improve outcomes for newcomers.

In this Technology in Human Services podcast episode I was joined by Ibukun Abejirinde and Nancy Clark to talk about their work looking at how to re-imagine digital or virtual health care through a compassionate lens, focusing on Newcomers to Canada.

Your audiences are increasingly reading your reports and PDF documents on mobile devices. You should want them to be as readable and accessible as possible on smartphones as they are on devices with larger screens. I've posted a number of publications on my site recently that are not at all mobile-friendly. Don't make that mistake. So here are some tips to keep in mind to ensure that the people you want to read your documents can and will.

This year’s budget is titled “Fairness for Every Generation” so I might expect to see some depth to the government’s approach to digital inclusion compared to last year’s budget. There are bits, but not anything that resembles a needed whole-of-country digital inclusion strategy.
