In this June 2023 Digital Leaders Week session presenters from Scotland and Nova Scotia share not only a name, but also experiences of delivering digital inclusion. Panelists from the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and GEO Nova Scotia, have been sharing learning with each other since the beginning of the pandemic. Representatives from Mhor Collective who have been delivering support across both territories also share insights.

Someone wrote that no technology project team is complete without a social worker, because "Social work excels at understanding the entire system while also understanding the needs of the individual." In our sector, no technology project should be considered complete without front line workers and Newcomers present, for the same reason. We must centre staff and Newcomers in all technology-related planning and decision-making.

A year ago I was invited to an IRCC online focus group on "how to position Canada’s immigration system as a global leader in client service excellence." Something it is increasingly not. It was part of IRCC's consultations last year, one of their thematic consultations, and I was happy to attend and provide feedback, as well as listen and learn form other participants. The entire experience makes me think of what engagement and a real relationship of trust and mutual respect could look like in our sector.

Workers who find the digital workplace more stressful are also more likely to experience burnout and poorer health. Can taking a mindful approach to technology improve digital workers’ wellbring?

It's not often (although it seems to be increasing) to get a glimpse into the inner workings and direction of federal government departments. IRCC is one of the least transparent. So it's delightful when we get a sense of their plans, especially in terms of how they might impact the work of our sector.

This presentation was part of the Pathways to Prosperity Preconference at International Metropolis in 2019. The presentation highlighted existing data sources for measuring integration outcomes at IRCC, as well as selected highlights of economic, social and health outcomes of immigrants, refugees and children of immigrants.

This 2019 AMSSA webinar focused on helping LINC teams understand the benefits and multiple approaches to online learning, as well as stay current on research and available supports. Presenters focused on the opportunities and barriers to using online and blended delivery for language training and address digital literacy, equity and access.

This 2023 Peel Newcomer Strategy session outlines and provides suggestions on how settlement sector can better promote their services to newcomers arriving in their community.
