I'm sharing a bunch of really great workshop and webinar recordings along a loose theme - information seeking, sharing, and sense-making. Each of these recordings stand alone, but they are worth considering along this theme and all contribute to some aspect of it.

Ongoing professional development, training, and learning is essential in our sector. There isn't enough consistent, ongoing, funded, and baseline training that occurs. For many, it's a task that individual workers must take on and maintain. That learning can take place formally, through courses, webinars, workshops, conferences, etc. It can also take place informally (or formally) in Communities of Practice. Here are some learning spaces that are specific to the sector, where both formal and informal learning takes place.

This report focuses on the work undertaken by the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Committee of the Agency of the Future (AoF) Project. The AoF Project is a national initiative being developed collaboratively by the Pathways to Prosperity research consortium, settlement service providers and settlement umbrella associations.

But, like making technology, or any service choices, it all comes down to being strategic and knowing/understanding your client.

In the immigrant and refugee-serving sector, misinformation comes in many different forms, from scams that directly target newcomers, to bad information that may not be intentionally spread, but which gets shared and can impact a newcomer's settlement negatively. We all need to increase our information literacy.

The report focuses on the dynamic relations between the two communities in the present context of Winnipeg. Following insights and stories gathered, we suggest several wise practices for the relationship-building process as recommended by participants. In so doing, the report seeks to inform a framework related to the development of an orientation toolkit for newcomers.
