How are technology and data are being used to enable innovative immigration systems? To ensure that Alberta continues to grow as an economic engine in Western Canada through COVID-19, the development of innovative immigration systems is critically important. This 2020 Civic Tech Calgary session provides an overview of Immigrant Services Calgary's new system for streamlining services for newcomers among multiple service providers in Alberta called Gateway Canada.

I get a morning email from Lexology, a free legal news service. It's incredibly useful. Today, it was Key legal considerations with generative AI. The first line grabbed me and I had an aha moment: "Mass media attention following Open AI’s release of ChatGPT has pushed the subject of artificial intelligence (AI) back into the limelight."

I was asked to contribute to a Future of Good article evaluating the recent federal budget. My high-level evaluation in is the article, but I thought about it a lot when I replied. I'm posting my entire response here.

The Ask Your PDF AI site allows you to "Upload your PDFs, and instantly transform them into conversational partners that are just as knowledgeable as the content they're based on. Engage with your documents like never before, and extract valuable insights with ease." So I tried it with a document/report I was part of writing. Ummm, it's really good.

As Artificial Intelligence grows in usage in society, what does it mean for nonprofit and philanthropy? How should we feel about it? How would we use it? Can it take on some tasks like grant applications? What are the ethical and equity considerations? Will it take over our jobs?

I’m always inspired when I chat with folks in the sector, but this Metropolis Conference session reminded me of the incredible wisdom, knowledge, and passion that exists if we just ask! I'm sharing what we did and what we learned here to try to keep the conversation going.

IRCC presented the findings from this sector survey at the March 2021 Metropolis conference. They have never released a report of their findings other than in this and maybe a couple of other presentations. And it's useful information for the sector as well as data for those also doing related sector research.

This February 2023 Pathways to Prosperity workshop highlighted several initiatives that address the need for online and hybrid language service delivery options for adult immigrants.
